Soul-Stirring Conversations with God

St. Luke Women’s Retreat
 January 29-31 2010

Picture this. A beautiful lodge nestled in the woods, a crackling fireplace, the aroma of fresh brewed coffee, a frozen stream, trickling waterfalls, crisp cold air, clear blue skies, sparkling snow-covered trees, and laughter. Lots of laughter!

Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?? These are just some of the sights, sounds, and smells that 39 women from St. Luke and 10 area churches of all denominations experienced at the 2010 St. Luke Women’s Retreat. The event was held January 29-31 at the Fleming Falls Retreat Center at Camp Mowana in Mansfield, Ohio. Mothers, daughters, daughter-in-laws, sisters, and friends-old and new- joined together for a weekend of rest, relaxation, fellowship, fun, and conversation. Soul-stirring conversations with God.

The group was welcomed Friday to an evening of coffee, fellowship, and getting to know each other. On Saturday, we were lead in study and discussions by Priscilla Shirer’s Bible study “Can We Talk?”. The topic was learning to talk to and listen to God through scripture. The afternoon was filled with crafts, puzzles, conversations, and napping. Some even ventured out into the frigid cold for a brisk hike through the beautiful woods of Camp Mowana lead by our resident experts Katie Brown and Kristi Hildebrand. On Saturday evening, we were treated to a fantastic concert by local Christian recording artist Jennifer Shaw. Jennifer’s beautiful voice echoed through the lodge, lifting praises to the Lord, and our souls were stirred once more. Conversation and laughter could be heard long into the wee hours of Sunday morning, as old friendships were strengthened and new friendships were forged.

The retreat concluded Sunday morning with praise and worship. The women joined together in prayer and singing of old standards and contemporary music. It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend. One participant commented: “A relaxing and refreshing time in the Lord for me. I appreciated the chance of meeting and fellowshipping with my Sisters in Christ”. Most would agree the weekend went way too fast. But we all departed refreshed and renewed, ready for more soul-stirring conversations with God.
